Integration of renewable energy technology offers the duel benefit of hedging against rising fossil fuel costs, while also helping to reduce your companies carbon footprint.

Different renewable technologies, such as wind turbines or solar photovoltaics have specific characteristics and requirements around placement and installation which need to be carefully considered at concept stage. We have the tools to design and accurately simulate generation profiles, which can be matched to your unique consumption pattern over the course of an average year.

We can assess a site for all possibilities, using precise data to present opportunities along side each other to enable you to make the best decision for your business.

The practice of energy efficiency is concerned with assessing current performance, identifying waste and implementing improvements. Typical enhancements could be installation of variable speed drives, LED lighting, boiler upgrades or adopting smarter controls. Once savings are made they will contribute to your bottom line as long as they are sustained.

Every business uses energy in a different way, with opportunities ranging from upgrading inefficient equipment to rooting out wasteful behaviour. The first step in embarking on an efficiency campaign is normally performing a systematic site audit according to the appropriate standards. This involves identifying the key energy uses, establishing a baseline and creating a register of opportunities.

The potential savings are calculated and the investment costs and payback periods are established over the lifecycle of each opportunity.

As the level of renewable electricity on the transmission network increases, grid stability becomes an increasing concern. To address this, in recent years Eirgrid have introduced the Demand Response and DS3 schemes; where businesses can earn revenue by making assets such as generators or chillers available for load reduction when the grid becomes unstable.

Your selected assets would be remotely managed as part of a Demand Side Unit, where geographically diverse loads are combined into one unit and managed by an aggregator. These loads can be adjusted in response to signals from the Transmission System Operator (Eirgrid) when the electricity grid is under pressure.

Businesses are free to chose the level of participation, whether its instant response within 2 seconds, or full controlled shutdown with 2 hours notice. Number of events per year can range from 4 to 40 depending on desired level of participation. We can assess you site to recommend which assets are suitable for the schemes and likely revenue potential.

An Energy Management System helps to proactively focus on reducing consumption and drives energy efficiency. An approach which is both methodical and comprehensive is required, beginning with the establishment of an energy policy and energy objectives; as well as instituting the processes and procedures to achieve those objectives.

We work with our clients to provide a framework for monitoring consumption, and developing reduction targets, while striving for continuous improvement and embedding energy awareness in the culture of your business.

Our team have extensive knowledge of the relevant programmes and standards, including ISO 50001, IS 399 and SEAIs EXEED certification.

We have full knowledge of grant funding and tax reliefs and other policy instruments which are designed to make low carbon technologies more attractive. This can either support feasibility studies, capital costs or on going operational support. Some of the specific funding programmes we have experience with are listed below;

  • Better Energy Communities
  • Support Scheme for Renewable Heat
  • Project Assistance Grants
  • Climate Action Fund
  • Accelerated Capital Allowances
  • Energy Efficiency Obligation Scheme
  • Renewable Energy Support Scheme

Grant assistance aside, there are also several avenues of financing available to support energy upgrades, including debt, leasing, 3rd party ownership or energy services contracting.

Projects of different scales can have varying levels of complexity. Work packages like grid connection, procurement, contracting, planning permission and grant applications can interact and depend on one another, and need to be carefully scheduled and executed.

Once an opportunity has been identified and its economic performance accurately established, we have certified project management professionals on our team who can assist our clients in taking a project from initial concept to fully operational.
